Ich bin Sängerin. Aber nicht nur das: ich entwickle Programme und schreibe meine eigenen Moderationen, ich bewahre Musik vor dem Vergessenwerden und ich texte und komponiere eigene Songs.
Meine Genres sind Chanson, Jazz und Cabaret schwerpunktmäßig aus der Zeit der 1920er bis -50er Jahre. Ich singe meistens auf Deutsch, Englisch und Französisch, aber auch Spanisch, Russisch, Mandarin oder Polnisch sind mal dabei, ebenso wie Klassik oder eben eigene Songs in deutscher oder englischer Sprache.

Mit meinem Klavierduo konzipiere ich zeitlos-elegante Programme mit internationalem Liedgut, schwerpunktmäßig der 1920er bis -50er Jahre.

Meine eigenen Songs klingen auch nach Chanson und Swing, reflektieren aber in ihren Texten das heutige Leben und seine Herausforderungen.

Die Geschichten, die ich bei meinen Konzerten mit Musik, Text und Poesie erzähle sind zeitlos und aktuell zugleich. Sie laden ein, sich mit sich selbst auseinanderzusetzen, musikalische Traditionen und kulturelles Erbe (wieder) zu entdecken und durch die Zusammenstellung der Songs tieferliegende Bedeutungen zu erkennen.

In der Tradition des Cabaret führe ich als Geschichtenerzählerin und Kulturbotschafterin in eine Welt von Eleganz, Anmut und Kultiviertheit, in einen Raum voll Intimität und Interaktion, Humor, Direktheit und einer klanglichen Einfachheit in einer oft überproduzierten Musikwelt.

Ohne Wurzeln keine Flügel

In der globalisierten und individualisierten Welt Halt und Orientierung zu finden scheint manchmal fast unmöglich. Wer jedoch seine Geschichte(n) kennt und weiß, wo unverhandelbare Werte und Wurzeln liegen, hat es leichter seinen Weg zu finden.
Mir persönlich hat das Lernen aus Erfahrungen anderer Menschen und der Blick in die Geschichte, in andere Sprachen und Kulturen immer wieder geholfen, Ereignisse und Lebensfragen zu verarbeiten und in Perspektive zu rücken.

Aufgewachsen bin ich mit Kinder-, Volks- und Küchenliedern, Chorälen, Gospels und vor allem Klassik. Zur Silberhochzeit meiner Eltern dann sollte ich als musikalische Einlage meine Schwester am Klavier begleiten und trat in einem viel zu großen Jackett meines Vaters als Pianist auf.
Meine Schwester sang Lieder von Marlene Dietrich und Zarah Leander und es war um mich geschehen. Ich verliebte mich unwiderruflich in die Unterhaltungsmusik des frühen 20. Jahrhunderts.

Trotz klarer künstlerischer Ambitionen fehlte mir in meinem Umfeld jedoch der Mut und die Unterstützung nach der Schule die Bühnenbretter der Welt zu erobern. Ich studierte Musikwissenschaft und arbeitet lange Jahre im Konzertmanagement des Klassik-Betriebs, zufrieden mit dem Job HINTER und nicht AUF der Bühne, nah genug an der Kunst, aber weit genug weg von meinen eigenen Träumen.

Eine Rechnung, die nicht aufging.

Als Produktions- und Abendspielleiterin übernahm ich eines Tages in einer Bühnenproduktion zusätzlich eine kleine Rolle und stand auf einmal auf der Bühne der Lübecker Musik- und Kongresshalle vor fast 1.000 Menschen und sang, solo, begleitet von einem großen Sinfonieorchester. Zugleich trug ich hinter der Bühne noch die Verantwortung. Trotzdem hatte ich mich noch nie so leicht und glücklich gefühlt, noch nie das Gefühle gehabt, so selbstverständlich irgendwo richtig zu sein, wie hier in diesem Moment. Es war, als ob ich nach einer langen Wüstenwanderung endlich Wasser trinken würde.

Dieser Moment ging mir nicht mehr aus dem Kopf und gab mir schließlich Mut, “hinter der Bühne” doch noch gegen “auf der Bühne” zu tauschen.

Mit meiner Musik möchte ich für mein Publikum einen Ort schaffen, an dem es sich genauso leicht und glücklich und richtig fühlen kann. Einen Ort, wo der Geist genährt, erfrischt und geweitet wird, wo unsere Wurzeln uns Ruhe und Halt schenken, damit uns gemeinsam Flügel wachsen können.

I am a singer. But not only that: I develop programs and write my own moderations, I save music from oblivion and I write lyrics and compose my own songs.

My genres are chanson, jazz and cabaret mainly from the 1920s to the 1950s. I sing mostly in German, English and French, but also in Spanish, Russian, Mandarin or Polish sometimes, as well as I perform classical music or just my own songs in German or English.

My own songs also sound like chanson and swing, but reflect in their lyrics today's life and its challenges.

With my piano duo I create timeless and elegant programs with international songs, mainly from the 1920s to the 1950s.

The stories I tell in my concerts with music, lyrics and poetry are timeless and current at the same time. They invite you to contemplate about yourself, to (re)discover musical traditions and cultural heritage and to recognize deeper meanings through the compilation of the songs.

In the tradition of Cabaret, I lead as a storyteller and cultural ambassador into a world of elegance, grace and sophistication, into a space full of intimacy and interaction, humor, directness and a sonic simplicity in an often overproduced musical world.

No roots, no wings

Finding a foothold and orientation in the globalized and individualized world sometimes seems almost impossible. However, if you know your history(s) and where non-negotiable values and roots lie, it is easier to find your way.
Personally, learning from other people's experiences and looking into history, other languages and cultures has always helped me to process events and life issues and put them into perspective.

I grew up with children's, folk and kitchen songs, chorales, gospels and especially classical music. Then, at my parents' silver wedding, I was asked to accompany my sister on the piano as a musical interlude and performed as a pianist in one of my father's much too large jackets.
My sister sang songs by Marlene Dietrich and Zarah Leander and I was hooked. I fell irrevocably in love with the entertainment music of the early 20th century.

Despite clear artistic ambitions, however, I lacked the courage and support in my environment to conquer the stage boards of the world after school. I studied musicology and worked for many years in concert management in the classical music business, content with the job BEHIND and not ON stage, close enough to the art but far enough away from my own dreams.

It was a calculation that didn't work out.

One day, as a production and stage manager, I took on an additional small role in a stage production and suddenly found myself standing on the stage of the Lübeck Music and Congress Hall in front of almost 1,000 people, singing, solo, accompanied by a large symphony orchestra. At the same time, I was still in charge backstage. Nevertheless, I had never felt so light and happy, never had the feeling of being so naturally right somewhere, as I did here at this moment. It was as if I was finally drinking water after a long desert hike.

I couldn't get this moment out of my head and finally gave me the courage to trade "backstage" for "onstage" after all.

With my music, I want to create a place for my audience where they can feel just as light and happy and right. A place where the spirit is nourished, refreshed and broadened, where our roots give us peace and support, so that together we can grow wings.
